Aristocraft boats
were made in Atlanta, GA beginning in 1946 and continuing today.
This was one of the last wood boat styles Aristocraft made. In 1959
Aristocraft began retooling for fiberglass production. |

This was a sound
boat with no rot but needed better looking paint and new varnish.
The top was stripped and revarnished. The bottom sanded and
repainted. The most unusual thing about this boat was the white
inverted "Y" shaped deck. This was achieved by bleaching the wood
and applying a white stain to it. This is often referred to as a
pickling stain. It took a couple attempts to get it applied evenly
but it was worth it because it turned out beautifully, as you can
see. The owner was going to put the hardware ad accessories on
himself. |

In memory of Dr.
Joe Westwood, Lansing MI. |

Joe was a great lover of boating
and one of my favorite customers. We became friends during the
course of restoring three boats for him, this Aristocraft, a 1957
Crosby, and a 1950's Sea Fury.
He will be greatly missed. |
